The Ministry of Finance accepted the amendment submitted by WPN to the proposed budget for the upcoming year. This amendment will allow more funds for incentives to those farmers who dealt with the processing of fruit, vegetables, dairy products, meat and other activities. This was stated by the Minister of Finance Dušan Vujović at the session of the National Assembly of Serbia.
According to the words of WPN member and MP on behalf of Nova Srbija Party, Dubravka Filipovski, this amendment would include the principle of improving gender equality through agricultural incentives.
As she explained, the aim of amendment was to encourage the rural development of Serbia, the economic empowerment of women, and the sustainability of villages, so that the young people would remain in the countryside.
This amendment was proposed by 84 women MPs from all political parties. The members of WPN Vera Paunović (PUPS) and Marija Obradović (SNS) personally thanked the Minister for accepting the amendment.
Ms. Obradović said that accepting this amendment is of great importance, because it was a huge step forward concerning gender-sensitive budgeting.
“This is a new thing in Serbia. Actually, this is a new thing for the better part of the world as well. But Serbia emerges as a leader in many global areas, so why not gender budgeting, too,” said Ms. Obradović. She announced that WPN would support women municipal assembly members from all over Serbia to insist on gender-sensitive budgeting and planning of local budgets.
Ms. Paunović said that women were the pillar of the family, both in urban and rural areas. They were initiators and participators in many activities, they managed and performed tasks in agriculture, and worked with no respite. There were many examples where women were registered as owners
