In the National Assembly Building on March 4th, the WPN and the Women’s Platform for Development of Serbia – Gender Policy Forum, held a working meeting on the political participation of women.
The discussion was focused on the achievements defined by the Women’s Platform for Development and on the political participation of women in the light of the upcoming elections, primarily how women would be positioned in this context.
The representatives of the Women’s Platform for Development of Serbia presented the priorities of this Platform in the areas of political life and political participation of women in the upcoming general and local elections in 2016. The data presented indicated certain challenges, but also the achievements reached in the previous period concerning the representation of women, in particular in the Parliament and the municipal assemblies of Serbia. The discussion was also dedicated to the initiatives and results achieved by WPN and women’s networks of the municipal assemblies all over Serbia, contributing to improving gender equality in our country.
In addition to the already established goals of strengthening gender equality, intensifying dialogue and involving men in gender equality discussion, the participants agreed to send an initiative to the Republic Electoral Commission to include the information on the number of women and men in electoral boards, strengthen the influence of women during the election campaign, and perform a screening of the upcoming elections.
